How to Reach the Heart of Orvieto
Orvieto Cathedral is located in the historic center of the city, on the tufa rock that dominates the valley. Once you arrive in Orvieto, the address to head for is Piazza del Duomo, 26.
If you come by train, the most convenient way into the centre is Piazza Cahen, which you reach by funicular.
By Train
Getting to Orvieto by Train
Orvieto railway station lies below the town, in the Orvieto Scalo area, on the Rome–Florence line. From the station you reach the funicular, which links the lower town to Piazza Cahen in about 5 minutes.
From Rome
Orvieto is well connected to Rome via Intercity and regional trains. It is always advisable to check updated schedules on the railway operator’s official website.
From Florence
Florence is also connected along the same rail corridor. Journey times depend on the type of train and the service you choose.

Once you arrive, the funicular is just beyond the railway underpass, directly opposite the station. It is the most convenient link to the historic center.

The funicular connects Orvieto Scalo to Piazza Cahen in about 5 minutes and is one of the easiest ways to reach the centre.

Getting to Orvieto by Car and Where to Park
Orvieto is easily reached from the A1 motorway via the dedicated Orvieto exit. Once you exit, follow the signs for the historic center and parking areas.
The most practical parking areas are Campo della Fiera and Piazza Cahen. From the Campo della Fiera car park you go up to the centre by the Ripa Medici lift or by the escalator route.

By Bus
Getting to Orvieto by Bus
Orvieto is also served by interregional buses and local connections. In most cases they arrive near the railway station or close to Campo della Fiera, from where it is easy to continue towards the historic center.
